01 Our story
For generations, the Suguta Valley was known as the valley of insecurity — a hard land of scanty vegetation where settled life was difficult. Today that story is changing. Through community advocacy and climate resilience work led by the people of the valley themselves, water is reaching more households and acacia trees bloom green across the rift.
The community is not waiting to be rescued. The community is leading — and the valley is answering. How SUREWA began
02 What we do
01
Advocacy for, and delivery and improvement of, reliable water supply across the Suguta Valley.
02
Restoration of the valley's vegetation and acacia cover, and community-led response to a changing climate.
03
Helping valley households put reliable food on the table in a hard climate.
04
Advancing every child's — and every adult's — right to learn in the Suguta Valley.
05
Barazas, civic forums and engagement with county government — the method behind every programme.
03 From the field
04 Where we work
One of Kenya's hardest landscapes — a dry rift corridor between Lake Turkana and Lake Baringo, where SUREWA's member communities live and lead.
05 Work with us
NGOs, county government, development partners, companies and individuals — partnership starts with a conversation. The community sets the agenda; partners help deliver it.
06 Latest updates
Where the valley floor once lay bare, acacia trees now bloom with green cover — the visible result of community-led climate resilience work.
Residents gathered in a series of barazas to set priorities for water, land restoration and education — the community's own agenda, in the community's own words.
Seven years after forming as a self-help group, Suguta Resilience Watch is now a formally registered CBO — strengthening its standing with communities, county government and partners.
