The change is visible from the ridge above the valley: where the land once lay scant and bare, acacia trees now bloom with green cover across the Suguta Valley.

The return of vegetation is the result of sustained community-led climate resilience work — protecting regrowth, restoring degraded ground and managing grazing so the land can recover. Green cover means shade, browse for livestock, soil that holds water, and a valley that can sustain settled life.

For SUREWA, the blooming acacias are more than trees. They are proof that a community, organised and heard, can change the land it lives on.
