Green returns: acacia cover spreads across the Suguta Valley
Where the valley floor once lay bare, acacia trees now bloom with green cover — the visible result of community-led climate resilience work.
02 Programme
Restoration of the valley's vegetation and acacia cover, and community-led response to a changing climate.
The rift floor is heating and drying. Scanty vegetation, degraded land and unpredictable seasons once made the Suguta Valley synonymous with insecurity.
SUREWA's climate resilience work restores the land itself — protecting and replanting acacia cover, restoring grazing areas, and organising the community's own response to a changing climate. The green now blooming across the valley is the visible proof.
